Eid Vacation: Cairo

September 14, 2010

and the hand holding begins....

Groot, Rome, and Mike visited last week for a tour through Egypt. Our trip can be divided into three parts: Cairo, Luxor, and Sharm El-Sheikh.

I picked them late at night and we instantly hit up the local shawarma spot. Mike would be in search of this legendary sandwich throughout the trip. We needed to wake up early the next morning because we had limited time due to jet-lag and Ramadan hours. The first day we went to the Pyramids and the Citadel. Mike was strangely fascinated with Egyptian men holding hands and pinching…well anything (From the pictures you can see how obsessed Mike was).

For dinner we ended up at Carnivore, an All-You-Can-Eat Kenyan meat buffet, which sounds amazing but wasn’t very tasty. The best part of the dinner was Mike mispronouncing the name of the restaurant with an odd Italian accent.

The next morning I went to work and the guys were supposed to go to the Egyptian Museum. However, they woke up in the afternoon and ended up just going to KFC. We passed the time until dinner by playing Scrabble on the iPad (Yes, we are nerds. But cool ones since we like sports). This night we ate at the Sofitel and had some nice grilled meats. We smoked some shisha and drank some juice and then headed home early due to an early flight to Luxor the next day.

It was a whirlwind tour of Cairo, but they got a sense of the craziness and authenticity of the city. The rest of the trip would be relieved, for the most part, of the hectic traffic and loud noises of Cairo.

Here are the rest of the pictures from the Cairo portion of our trip:
